I visited Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific
University in Beppu of Oita on July 30.
APU has an international environment where both Japanese and
multi-national students study together. It was great to see many multi-national
groups talking and working together on campus. I felt like coming home.
The objective of my visit was to give a
presentation on global talent development and work & life balance and a
class on marketing.
First about the class on marketing. There were 25 attendants including business
people coming from the outside of APU and a few from another university.
Of marketing, I focused on the subject of
positioning. After my short lecture, I
had them contemplate on their positioning and everybody made presentation of
his/her positioning. It may have been
new and difficult for the fist time to all.
However, they are serious and curious participants doing great.
The second was a presentation at a large
room to some 100 students. The audience was international. As per requested I talked about global talent
development and work & life balance in English.
I saw the students listen and take notes
ardently. The following Q&A session
was exciting. Many questions were asked
and I did my best to give them satisfactory answers. Even after the session was over, there still
were a few students lining up in front of me with more questions.
It was a worthwhile moment for me. I felt them hungry for practical advice based
on real life business experiences.I hope that I was able to have met some of
Teaching at APU reminded me of the
international environment I had before.
It was refreshing to me and I felt free and good about being on this
I thank APU and its students for giving me
an valuable experience.
